SFCC Angling Diary

posted 28 Dec 2011 02:45 by Ronnie Guthrie   [ updated 28 Dec 2011 02:46 ]

The SFCC angling diary (www.anglingdiary.org.uk) is a web based diary for anglers to record all of their catches for freshwater fish species.  Utilising the benefits of the digital age, it offers you the ability to securely save your angling records (including pictures), instantly retrieve them, share them with other anglers (if you want to) and look at them on an interactive map. There is even a blog with fishing reports for many fishing areas. In return for these benefits, The Tweed Foundation (www.tweedfoundation.org.uk) has access to submitted records to help better understand and manage Trout and Grayling Fishery in the Tweed District.

Excerpt from Gala Angling Association Jubilee Year 1860 - 1910

Told by Mr Alexander Miller

"TO PLEASE THE TROOTS" - Sam McMillan was a fine fisher, who came from Langholm and spent the last 15 years of his life in Galashiels. There was a pawky humour about him, he could tell some grand fishing stories, and was the very best of companions on a riverside excursion. I remember coming on him one day at Neidpath (Yair) when he was taking off his waders, On asking him how he had got on, he said "Aboot six pund o'troots." I asked him what he had killed them with, and he replied,"there's ma strap lyin'there,Sandy." I examined it and said, Ye dinna mean to say, Sam, ye killed six pund wi' flees like thae?" And Sam answered, "I dinna dress ma flees to please men, Sandy, but to please the troots."
